Adult and Young Adult Faith Formation
In Our Hearts Were Buring Within Us, the pastoral plan for adult faith formation, the United States bishops made it clear that “adult faith formation, by which people consciously grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflection, prayer, and study, must be “the central task in [this] catechetical enterprise,” becoming “the axis around which revolves the catechesis of childhood and adolescence as well as that of old age.”5This can be done specifically through developing in adults a better understanding of and participation in the full sacramental life of the Church.
To make this vision a reality, Saint Paul Cathedral Parish is making a commitment to adult faith formation, positioning it at the heart of our catechetical vision and practice. We pledge to support adult faith formation without weakening our commitment to our other essential educational ministries.
YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY UP-DATE
On Monday, December 16 we gathered with a good number of young adults from Saint Paul Cathedral and Saint Regis to continue our conversations about young adult ministry. We had Mineo’s pizza and made some immediate plans for some young adult ministry outreach. Young adults are aged 21 through 35/40. Please reach out and spread the word about what we are doing.
We have agreed to host a monthly THEOLOGY ON TAP. This will be an opportunity for young adults in the greater Oakand area to come together on the first Monday of the month at a local restaurant where we can have some food and beverages, get to know each other better, and to hear a speaker talk about some aspect of our Catholic faith. There will be time for questions and discussions. We have set dates for the first three gather-ings: Monday, February 3, Mon-day, March 3 and Monday, April 7. We will gather from 7 until 9 pm at a location to be determined as well as our topics and speakers. We invite all our young adults to mark their calendars and invite other young adults to join us. It will be a great way to network with the young adults in our two parishes and the greater Oakland area. All are welcome.
A FESTIVAL OF PRAISE, with music, Eucharistic adoration, confessions, followed by Mexican food, is scheduled to be held at Saint Regis Parish on Monday, March 24th beginning at 7 pm. More information will fol-low. Our next Young Adult Minis-try meeting is scheduled for Mon-day, January 13th in the social hall of Saint Paul Cathedral par-ish from 6:30 until 8:00 pm. We will have some food and all inter-ested young adults are welcome to attend as we continue our con-versations and plans for young adult ministry in the parish.
